My father built our first Frankenstein computer with Apple parts before switching to Microsoft — and I can pinpoint the exact moment a 'walled garden' turned him away

The first computer I ever used was cobbled together using various Apple computer parts. It was made back when Apple didn't have a walled garden like it does today. In fact, it was the rise of the walled garden that pushed my family away from Apple and toward Windows.

Just a couple of weeks after the US government rescinded the ban on NVIDIA's H20 AI chip sales to China, it was announced that both NVIDIA and AMD will hand over 15% of their revenue from specific AI GPUs in order to receive export licenses.
